Gene ‘Bud’ Glenn Miller

Gene “Bud” Glenn Miller, 87, of Gillette died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

A private memorial service will be conducted by family at a later date.

He was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Norfolk, Nebraska. He spent his childhood years in Morrill, Nebraska, and Powder River County, Montana, with his parents, Archie Glenn Miller and Georgia Marion (Bradbury) Miller, and sister, Betty Nadine (Miller) Kane.

On April 26, 1948, he married Marie Aleen Thorne in Miles City, Montana. They raised their children, Terry, Iola and Lorie, in Powderville and Alzada, Montana, where he drove truck and ranched until his wife tragically succumbed to cancer in 1957.

On July 25, 1958, he married Etta Ella Tipton in Riverton, and they had three children, Karletta, Randall and Etta Jo. They ranched in Alzada, Montana, and then moved to Colony, where he was employed at a bentonite mine.

When he became a Sweetwater County Brand Inspector in 1969, the family moved to Rock Springs. In the early 1990s, he and his wife moved to Boulder and enjoyed living next to the Wind River Mountains.

In 2005, they moved to Gillette, and his wife died in 2009, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Miller was a member of the Wyoming State Brand Inspectors organization and the Wyoming State Peace Officers. In his early years, he loved to dance and play card games with friends, and he played local league baseball while they lived in Alzada.

Given the choice, he always preferred to be outdoors, where he enjoyed making improvements to his land and working with his livestock. He enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, was an avid bull riding circuit follower, and he most looked forward to visits from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He had a mischievous sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye when enjoying a good laugh with family and friends.

Mr. Miller is survived by his children, Terry Eugene Miller of Gillette, Lorie Dawn Dollison of Newcastle, Randall Glenn Miller of Rock Springs and Etta Jo Brasmer of Vancouver, Washington; his half-brothers, Sid Miller of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and George Miller of St. Louis, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Georgia Miller; wives, Marie Miller and Etta Miller; children, Lloyd Arvin Miller, Iola Fern Miller and Karletta Mae Johnson; siblings, Betty Kane and Jim Miller; step-mother, Sydell Marie Miller; and two grandchildren.

A memorial account has been established in Mr. Miller’s name at First Interstate Bank in Gillette.

Condolences also may be attached to the obituary on the News Record’s website at gillettenewsrecord.com.
